🤩We are thrilled to be hosting the Wild River Pow-Wow drumming group and the Michell Family Pow Wow dancers at the Kwantlen Art & Cultural Exhibition on July 24th at 11 am and 1 pm! 🤩The Kwantlen Art & Cultural Exhibition will also feature a performance by Indigenous-led band, The Spiritual Warriors with special guest, Russell Wallace at 3 pm.
✨Internationally acclaimed music group, The Spiritual Warriors, creates music inspired by the land and life in the coastal mountains of the Lilwat Nation. With their unique blend of indigenous chants and contemporary roots, rock and reggae, The Spiritual Warriors are distinctly west coast. The band performs most of their songs in U’cwalmicwts and are passionate about preserving and promoting their language and culture. The uplifting reggae rhythm underlines the beautiful harmonizing of the vocals sung bilingually in English and U’cwalmicwts, the Lil’wat Language.
✨The Spiritual Warriors will be joined by special guest, Russell Wallace, an award-winning composer, producer and traditional singer from the Lil’wat Nation. He has been making music for more than 30 years, including a stint as the Indigenous Artist in Residence at the 2019 Vancouver International Jazz Festival. He released “Unceded Tongues,” in 2021, which is sung in the St’át’imc language and combines pop, jazz and blues with Salish musical forms. He is the Director of the Indigenous Vocal Ensemble at Vancouver Community College.
