Event Details
On July 3rd, 5pm-6pm PDT, 2RMX and Virtual Feast are honoured to re-present Buffy Sainte-Marie’s “Backyard Session” – an intimate musical journey that she created exclusively for 2RMX 2020. We are grateful to partner with the Penticton Art Gallery, on Syilx territory, and to help celebrate the opening of their exhibition “‘Buffy Sainte-Marie: Pathfinder’ A retrospective exhibition by an innovator of digital art,” Jul 3–Sep 11, 2021.
Buffy’s 2020 2RMX virtual performance touched the hearts and spirits of all who were fortunate to view it, as she recorded it literally in her own backyard, amongst the beauty of her rainforest garden. We are forever grateful for Buffy to gift us with this intimate sharing of her life, her work, her talents, her story, her strength, her love.
It is with strength in spirit but profound sadness in our hearts that we also acknowledge and honour the ongoing and devastating confirmations of ever more stolen Indigenous children in unmarked graves at former residential school sites across Turtle Island. All people, but especially Indigenous peoples, need to be surrounded by expressions of value, love and honour as the families and communities are overwhelmed with grief and pain. This is our purpose, why we carry on in difficult times, to bring Indigenous voices like Buffy’s – voices of love, compassion and healing – to the forefront.
For more info about the “Buffy Backyard Session” re-stream or registering to attend the re-stream presentation IN PERSON at the Penticton Art Gallery (very limited capacity) goto https://july3.2rmx.ca . You do NOT need to register to watch from your home device but please do SUBSCRIBE 2VF.ca for streaming and in-person contemporary Indigenous event updates.

Buffy Sainte-Marie
[Cree]
Buffy Sainte-Marie is a cultural tour-de-force and a tireless social justice activist with multiple JUNO awards and a Polaris Prize as well as being the first Indigenous artist ever to win an Academy Award.
From Universal Soldier, her definitive anti-war anthem, to her 2017 album Medicine Songs, Buffy Sainte-Marie makes us all feel stronger and more capable of seeing the world around us clearly. Part rhythmic healing, part trumpeting wakeup call, Medicine Songs is her soundtrack for the resistance.[Cree]
